OUR AMBITIOUS NEW PROJECT!
As La Dauphinelle celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2022, a second house will be inaugurated: La Maison d’Évelyn. Scheduled to open in 2023, Maison d’Évelyn will become the largest second-stage shelter in Montreal. Its mission is to provide safe transitional housing and comprehensive services for women and children who are victims of domestic violence following their stay in a first-stage shelter.
HOUSING, SUPPORT AND
COMMUNITY
Each year, 42 women and children will live in one of the 14 accommodations adapted for small and large families. Four of these apartments will be accessible to people with reduced mobility.
- 4 single-bedroom apartments that can accommodate 1 woman and 1 child
- 6 two-bedroom apartments that are spacious enough for 1 woman and 2 children
- 4 three-bedroom apartments that can accommodate 1 woman and 4 children
- 4 community rooms (playrooms for children and teenagers, kitchen, multipurpose room) to promote community life and break families’ isolation
A team of psychosocial workers and educators will be dedicated to La Maison d’Évelyn. Residents will have access to all of La Dauphinelle’s services.
A DIRE SITUATION AND AN URGENT NEED FOR A SOLUTION
In Montreal, 75% of women are denied access to second-stage sheltersdue to a lack of space. With the tragic wave of feminicides hitting the province, our project aims to reduce the risk of murder by a spouse or an ex-spouse by offering a safe transitional shelter to women most at risk of spousal homicide.
The success rate of La Dauphinelle’s second-stage apartments has been proven: 99% of women leave for independent housing after passing through our second-stage shelter, whereas nearly 1 in 10 women return to their spouse after a stay in a first-stage shelter.
